C# Development / Change Windows 8 Key / DNS name does not exist

I claim to be a developer...I am a hack. I love working with computers and I could spend 24/7 in front of a computer screen to my own detriment. My family knows that I can disapear for hours and days and not even know I was missing. I was recently watching a video on channel 9 http://channel9.msdn.com/ by Scott Hanselman. This lead me to his blog. His recomendation was to blog more. After thinking about it I thought it would be a good Idea. I am doing this for my own good not for the betterment of humanity. Humanity is screwed up enough it does not need my help. I plan on keeping stupid code stuff in this blog so that when I forget something...which is all the time. I have one place to find it. I will start with this. I was trying to activate windows and I was trying to use my own key.

I kept getting the error "DNS name does not exist" along with some pointless errorcode. (the code probably had a point but I did not need it to google and find the answer.

What I found was that I needed to replace the temp key that got installed with windows 8 and use the key that I purchased.

But did not know how to replace the temp key that windows 8 got installed with when I found this site.

This part being the key.

Run a dos prompt with admin rights. then type:

slmgr.vbs /ipk
(you did not think I would type my own key did you)

That was it. I am starting to develop a new windows * app. This app will track Patient data for a doctor office, pharmacy, hospital. FUN!
